Dumpling for days !!

Yesterday we had Sally, Amy's mum come in and make dumplings an wongtongs with us.

Most of us have never made dumplings before but yesterday was the first day!

It started off were Sally showed us all the ingredients and how we make it, then we got the dough out of the bowl and split it into 4 and had to turns at rolling the dough around to stretch it out, after it was all stretched we put it on the table and cut it into small thin pieces of dough, after that we used rolling pins to flatten them all out and put small piles of beef on the flat surface, we then folded one side to the other and pushed the sides down with our finger and put it on a trey. with the wongtongs i didn't learn how to make them so i couldn't tell you how they work, but basically they have pork in the middle and you have to do special folding techniques. I then helped Sandy with cooking the dumplings and learned how long to cook them for and what to look for as a sign they are done. After the first batch of dumplings was made Sally asked me to taste if they were good or not so I was the taste tester in the class to make sure they tasted alright.  Well Bill ( Am'y younger brother ) and some of the boys were in room 20 cooking the wongtongs me and Chloe cleaned up the table as it was a very big mess. After cleaning it up we got all set up ready to eat them and we all got 6 dumplings and 2 wongtongs each. They were so good and i would definitely recommend them for a lunch or snack.

Ingredients:

- pork   - beef    - flour ( 1 kilogram )   - water ( 6 kilograms )    - chives   - wongtong pastry    - oil

Here are some pictures from the successful morning we had !

I hope you enjoy your dumplings and wongtongs !!!!

    1. Hi Ella, Thank you for commenting on my blog post, Um with your question on how long it took to make them the dough had already been made for us we just needed to role it out and put in the beef and chives and close it up, and with the Wong-tongs we had a pastry kind of slice and we had to put meet in the middle and use special turning technique to make them into a Wong-tong. And how we cooked the Dumplings we putsome oil over it then at least 40 of them into a frying pan at a time, after about 1 minute we would tip some water over all the dumplings and put a lid over them for about 7 minutes then you could take them off. With the Wongtongs we had to put them in a pot and cook them kind of like pasta.

  4. Hello Jenayde,
Which one did you prefer the most, dumplings or wontons? I'm pretty sure you made a mistake with the amount of water. Because if it was 6kg of water with 1kg of flour, it must turn out very watery aand gross.
    Bye

    1. Kia Ora Amy, Thank you for commenting on my blog post, I definitely enjoyed the dumplings more as i didn't really like the wontons and gave the rest of mine to Leandri. Yeah i presumed i didn't get to right amount of water as i thought it was 6kg's to.

    2. Hello Jenayde,
Just out of interest, do you think you'll enjoy the wontons more if it was fried? For the water, it should be 600ml instead. Maybe change it on your post so other people making the dough won't get a very watery mixture.

    3. Kia Ora Amy, I have never tried wontons fried, maybe if your mum comes in again before the end of the year we could make fried wontons instead of just regular wontons! that cold possibly be arranged do you think?

    4. Guten Morgen Jenayde,
Well, I don't think we can arrange it now, but you can make it at home! Just make the wontons, but instead of cooking it in water, fry it in oil. Just don't over-fry!
      Good luck
      Amy
