The highlight of my 2020!

 On Thursday the year 8's had a night over at the Belfast rugby club rooms for their graduation. Some people showed up in a fancy car. When you got there you would walk up a blue carpet where all the teachers, teacher aids and assistants would be standing to clap you in. When you first walked you would get a picture with your parents and then you could go find your table that you want to sit at. Georgia Swale, Georgia Barratt, Maia,Carma and I all sat aft the same table along with our parents. We then got a bunch of group pictures with each other, I got a picture with Georgia Barratt and then we got a picture with Georgia swale and Carma and then we all got one with Maia and Jemma. We then sat down at our tables and we listened to a speech by Jeremiah and Georgia Swale. We then got called up table by table to go up and get dinner. There was so much good food, I think it was safe to say i enjoyed the food there.  After dinner we went to the dane floor and looked at the graduation sides people had made and we grabbed dress up props from a table and took more pitures, this time the girls got a couple pictures with the bois ( Toby, Archie, Connor ) And then I also got a seperate one with Toby for my mum. After more pictures we then had desert, After a while everyone finished desert and we chilled out for a bit then we did our dances. We started off with dances with our original partner from pre dance practise, I had Jeremiah as my dance partner, After the first 20 seconds we had to get our mum or dad and we had to dance with them. After a thousand years we did our footloose dance and everyone had so much fun. We then had our disco and all the girls gathered in a big circle and Jemma, Bobbi and I were doing the worm in the middle while we were all singing, it was heaps of fun. They then turned off the disco and announced the gifts. They went from class to class and we got a certificate along with a card with what we were. My card said loyalty. we then all got a Pounamu and all of them were blessed. after the presentations Georgia and Amy did another small specch together and then we all said our goodbyes and left.

Today for Manaia Kalani we had to do the start of a summer learning, The first project was to go onto a website called art colouring book. It had heaps of famous paintings or pictures and we had to recreate it in our own art. I did a piece of art were everything is all swiggely, I took a screenshot of the original copy and the one i made, try and spot the difference !

 One our reading activates this week was to choose small activities throughout a page and one of the activates was to create a song that reminded us of a cartoon theme song. this is mine. it reminds me off a cartoon called bubble guppies from when i used to watch it when i was younger.

Make your choice !

 This morning we went out to sports with Nick, He introduced to us today a new game called make your choice. It is when you could choose between baseball and cricket. I was in a group with Rihanna, Amani, Laykon, Carlos, Moana, Darion and Tiare. It was me, Darion, Rihanna and Carlos vs Amani Laykon Moana and Tiare.  For the sports if you hit the ball you had to run around 3 orange cones and if the pitcher had the ball and was back in his place ( the white cone ) he would put down the ball on the cone and say stop and you would have to stop running. Each cone was worth one point. In the end everyone had heaps of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves. Here are some pictures !

Grad slides !

 Since i have been at Belfast it has been a pretty interesting experience. This year is my last year at Belfast and for graduation we have to make a slide of our highlights and add some of pictures to it.

Here is mine, I have updated it due to changes made slightly.

Dumpling for days !!

 Yesterday we had Sally, Amy's mum come in and make dumplings an wongtongs with us. 

Most of us have never made dumplings before but yesterday was the first day! 

It started off were Sally showed us all the ingredients and how we make it, then we got the dough out of the bowl and split it into 4 and had to turns at rolling the dough around to stretch it out, after it was all stretched we put it on the table and cut it into small thin pieces of dough, after that we used rolling pins to flatten them all out and put small piles of beef on the flat surface, we then folded one side to the other and pushed the sides down with our finger and put it on a trey. with the wongtongs i didn't learn how to make them so i couldn't tell you how they work, but basically they have pork in the middle and you have to do special folding techniques. I then helped Sandy with cooking the dumplings and learned how long to cook them for and what to look for as a sign they are done. After the first batch of dumplings was made Sally asked me to taste if they were good or not so I was the taste tester in the class to make sure they tasted alright.  Well Bill ( Am'y younger brother ) and some of the boys were in room 20 cooking the wongtongs me and Chloe cleaned up the table as it was a very big mess. After cleaning it up we got all set up ready to eat them and we all got 6 dumplings and 2 wongtongs each. They were so good and i would definitely recommend them for a lunch or snack. 

Ingredients:

- pork   - beef    - flour ( 1 kilogram )   - water ( 6 kilograms )    - chives   - wongtong pastry    - oil

spelling to the highest

 Kia Ora, This morning for reading we are back into interchange which means im back in room 20 for reading. One of my reading tasks this week was to do some vocabulary work on a google sheet. You had to read a sentence and there would be a list of words and you would have to go to another page and figure out which word matches with what sentence and match it up with the number the sentence is in. As you complete the task slowly

if you get word right then it starts drawing something on a blank page, This time it drew out a witches hat with a moon sitting on top of it. I think this was hard and challenging but fun. What do you think ?

The passion to my project.

A couple of weeks ago Miss Mccombie gave us the challenge to make a passion project on the choice of topic. I chose to do the most followed people on socials, those socials being Tiktok and Instagram the most famous platforms of social media. I hope you learn something new as i did well making these slides.

Spring time-lapse!

 Today this afternoon we had Mary from Orchid schools come and visit us again. She came to check in on our beautiful trees that site in the school garden. We have many different varieties of types of trees and they are all growing so fast. Except for Darion's his is quite small like him tehe. Well we were out in the garden we had a look at what was growing on the trees and what needed to be taken off the trees in order to help them grow more! Here are some pictures of this afternoon!

We had some younger kids from the Lower Middles come and hang out with us during this afternoon.

Here is a picture of a beautiful bee sitting on a flower, I tried picking up some of the bees, i did eventually get one because all the boys challenged me  but then they  all started freaking out because i was holding one on my hand and then it flew away.

My speech on disasters of 2020

 

As most of you will know we all had speech's last week. There were heaps of different topics. I did the disasters of 2020 topics. What topic did you do for your speech ?

And now we are going into the weather forecast for 2020... We have had a very bad ride ahead of us with cycelon Betty distructing with 4 massive events occurring in our year. Yes, 2020 has been a bit of a crazy year so far but we don’t know what else is to come ? And as for all the other ‘20 years - they have been similar. For now leaving that and moving onto Austrailas weather.. 

Fires

Our weather forecast for today is vibrant flames throughout nearly the whole of Austraila so it looks like it is  probably a short and singlet type of day.But these vibrant flames turned into fires that continued for quite a long time. These cruel times took at least 34 human lives through the fires and around 417 lives from smoke inhalation. These fires took around 210 days to be declared extinguished and have burned at least 2,500 houses to the ground.These fires have taken at least  19,000 square miles and burned it all.

Kobe and Gigi

Now we have some news about Kobe and Gigi Bryant, yes we were all quite sad about the tragic deaths of these 2 very important people. But some people have no clue on how they died exactly. Kobe and Gigi Bryant Died in a helicopter crash on a Sunday in Calabasas. His second oldest daughter was only 13 years old when she died. The family were devistated.

Covid-19

Covid-19 struck many as no one was clearly expecting it. Most people say it came from China which most people are correct as it came from Wuhan city,Hubei Province which is in China. Most people say there was a bat that was eaten by a man who didn’t cook it enough. When actually there was a woman who ate a bat after buying it as she thought it had been pre cooked. Well we were in quarantine. I think it was day 7 and I was already bored, I remember having a good old conversation with the spider. It didn’t last long. I think he fell asleep but it's probably because I was telling him something that was pretty interesting but it was quite long.

George Floyd

Now In the middle of Covid-19 I think we all heard the death of a black man that led people to chanting down their streets holding signs and yelling things for justice. George Floyd was having breathing troubles when he was forced to the ground after being named a suspect of a robbery then later blamed as the man that caused the crime when he was just taking a daily walk with one of his mates. The man responsible for Floyds death was later put in jail after people surrounding the situation started live recording and thousands of people were watching and shared  it. Graphetic posters were made on the walls of street buildings and a massive row of flowers, toys, cards  and presents were laid against the fence of where his death finished him.

Now i'm sure we are all sorry for these events, but sadly we can’t do anything to stop any of them. But 2020 isn’t over and we don’t know what else could come for us all.2020 has just been horrible

 I remember that at the end of 2019 everyone was talking about how 2020 will be the best year yet, well i personally think that 2019 new years eve everyone jinxed it and this is what it turned out to look like.

Game afternoon

 

Last Thursday room 20 and 21 had a game afternoon. We had a music station where you could write down and request songs and they would play them but you had to put clean music down. Then we also had heaps of different board games out. There was stuff like Cluedo, 5 second rule, Uno and heaps of others. I played a game of Cluedo with Ava, Ruby, Emma and some others Whats your favourite board game ? 

Making money !

For a few months now my step mum has been making an online tea business called Ti Ani and just a few weeks ago she moved down to Chch to live with me my brother and my dad.She has enrolled to start her business at the Riccarton markets for every Sunday until the end of October.I have lately been helping with her tea business and tomorrow is our first day at the Riccarton markets and so this morning we did a little pre set up for what we want it to look like and here's what it looks like !

Skiing at Porters !

                     

Yesterday the Senior syndicate had to be at school by 7:15 to get ready for a ski trip ! We started off by putting our bags in the bus and taking a set on the bus. We got to Springfield and had a toilet break. We eventually got to the ski fields and we grabbed our bags went up to a special bar thing where We then got given tickets and on the back of the tickets had the name of our instructor. I was with Mara. We first went to our groups and put on our gear, then we went to go and get ski's, 

We then got taken to the sunkit carpet lift to get told about how to put on and take off your ski's and then that when we went for our first round down. There was what the call a massive belt witch ou had to stand on to get to the top of the hill and go again. all you had to do was slideo nto the belt and you would just stay there as there was grips on the belt for the ski's to sit on.Every now and again some people would fall off the belt but they got back up and kept going. There was a few people who managed to stay up the whole way going down the sunkit carpet so Mr Barrow took some of the kids up to the next level, the poma, When you were on the poma there was someone who gave you a set that you would usually use for the flying fox's. You didn't actually sit down on the sets but you just put it between your legs and it would pull you up, usually if you didn't have your ski's straight towards the mountain and you weren't looking up then you would fall over. I fell over a couple of time and kept going. I eventually got to the top but as soon as I did I was going so fast I tried to slow down but it didn't work and I went flying over top of the railing of were you get given the poma and I was so embarrassed. I then just gave up and went back to the sunkit  carpet. I then versed a few people in a race but i didn't win any of them so i gotg angry haha. We then got told to pack up and get ready to go home. Some people left their ski's and boots outside the bus instead of returning them but some people were kind enough to go return them. People ended up sleeping on the bus on the way home and then that was the end of the day.

 Today I haven't been at school  but I still decided to do a prototec because they give me a challenge to try and bet my previous score. I usually do pretty good with prototecs like i will get around 87% and stuff and if im lucky maybe a 92%  at school but it is harder with everyone in the class talking. So today I took my opportunity to put in some headphones crank a good beat and do a prototec and just try to relax. I ended up getting 97% and 1 wrong in the division section !

 This week for reading we had to do a DLO on palm oil. This is a doc did on palm oil.  It tells you what is bad about it and what has in it and stuff like that.

 For the start of the day we had got given 5 activities to do with there was finding out Tongan foods, Finding out facts about Tonga, Learn about the Tongan dances, Try and make a Tongan pattern,Counting in Tongan.

I made a slide show on facts about Tonga. For this activity I worked with Chloe and we both worked on 4 slides each. I really enjoyed this activity because I learned more about Tonga then I knew before. I would definitely like to learn more about Tonga and maybe even travel there to experience it in reality.

Hitting 10/10 !

 I started prototec stage 6 at the very start of the year. I believed I couldn't do it but I started on sheet so i could work it out in my own pace. I eventually started getting better at it but i still struggled with adding and subtracting from 1000s, i eventually got all of them correct through sheet so Miss Mccombie wanted me to start doing it timed. It was very hard at first but i sat next to Micki who helped me a bit to understand. Miss Mccombie kept giving me different ways to try and understand how to work it out in less then 5 seconds. eventually i started getting most correct but just got the odd 2 or 3 wrong. This term I have been able to nail going through the thousands getting 1 or 2 wrong. The other day i started my prototec and got a 90% I was really proud of myself and wanted to try again to see if i could get higher. Usually getting one wrong in the adding and subtracting with the thousands has really frustrated me but today i went on and didn't even think about trying and i got all of my thousands right and it felt so good. 

How to STOP spam !

In Room 21 every Wednesday we have been lucky enough to have the Mania Kalani program to come in and help us with how to be Cyber smart on the internet. The past few weeks we have been given a task of making a comic on book creator about how to make a good reply to a comment or how to avoid spam comments. For this project we had to get into partners and I partnered up with Leandri. Everything was a team effort from finding out we had to do it on separate comic's to having to communicate with each other to know exactly what was going on the comic. In the end we both got ours done and it looked pretty good. have you ever made a comic using digital works before ? well if not here are some ideas to help you get started !

reaching for 90!

 Today in maths we had to finish off our prototecs and so I started my prototec but little did I know today would be the day i got to 90% on stage 6. Im not one to do well in maths but with Miss Mccombie helping me to understand and my pairs around me helping understand is well I have managed to get to my goal quickly. I hope to get to stage 7 soon as I wanna improve on my maths. I think I have done well and hope to soon get to 100% ! 

What started as a reporting investigation for the press is about to end as a death sentence for 2 hopeless teenagers alone and scared

 As I slowly creep through the sketched plain black hall with the sound of water dripping from the roof coming from behind me  I hear a voice coming from the main entrance of the abandoned building. The voice came again and I realised it's Veiro, she had come looking for me. I ran out and looked around and saw her standing there. I ran up to her and she looked like she had been possessed. Veiro, hey are you okay ? she looked at me and shaked her head with shook. “ there was a lady over there doing the laundry and she looked at me and ran away “ Veiro that's not possible we are the only people in here this place has been abandoned for years now  “ okay well can we just leave then ? that just gave me weird vibes “ yeah come on let’s go. We walked towards the dirty glass doors and Veiro grabs the handle, she stutters “ its.. Not.. opening….” 

Here  let me try. It is probably so rusty because this place hasn’t been used in so long.  she let go of the handle and I grabbed onto it. I tried so hard but it just wouldn’t move. I tried one more time and eventually it flung back on me and I fell over but the door shut again. “ Are you okay, do you need help ?” no i'm fine thanks i murmured. I got back up and tried opening the door again but it was stuck again, Veiro sighed and turned around and slide down the glass door onto the ground, “ this is useless we are never getting out of here “ well there was a door i came in around back maybe we can get out through that way? “ okay let's try it “  She got up and we started running towards the back of the building. What had started as an investigation for the press was about to end as a death sentence for 2 young teenagers hopeless and scared.  They kept walking around and realised they were going around in circles and they couldn’t find another door or hall leading somewhere else. Eventually they found them self's back in the main entrance of where they had started and were confused, annoyed but most of all anxious. “ ugh we are going to die in here aren’t we Toni ?” no i convincingly tried saying  we will find a way out of here. “ god we are hopeless “ Veiro said, clumping herself into a ball against the wall. “ what did you say ?” nothing i anxiously said. “ no you said something you literally whispered in my ear just now '' I swear to you I didn't say anything. “ well someone just whispered in my ear and if it's not you then who else would it be?”..............................

5 stunning definitions and synonyms that could help you learn !

 For one of our reading activities this week we had to do 5 definitions and 5 synonyms from the chapter of our book we were reading.We did this so we could understand what we were reading and what the words meant so when we read it we could know what it meant. I was reading Thief Lord and we read up to chapter 7 so we had to read chapter 6 and here are my definitions and synonyms. 

Breaking news runaway child caught read handed stealing !

For one of my reading activities this  week we had to make a diary entry on the book we are reading and on one specific character, I chose to do BO.  We had to do this reading activity so then we think of what would happen in the book our own way.

I chose to do BO because he is an interesting character and likes to start all the mischief.

Sports with room 21 !

 

As you can see these pictures aren't layed out very nicely but a couple of days ago Miss Mccombie took room 21 out for a sporty afternoon. We got out the hula hoops and the tennis balls, and then we got into groups of 5. We had to try and roll as much balls into our hoops as possible. Miss Mccombie then put the hoops closer and we had to try and roll it softer into the hoop. My team ( Stephan Chloe Carlos Tiare Micki )

came out of the led with 21 points after getting 7 balls in the hoop on the last round.

We then set out some cones and put the hula hoops away and we had a relay race. We had to stand in a line and had 4 balls and we would have to race to put our ball onto the top of the cone and then tag our other team mate and then they would go. After everyone had put there balls on the cones we then had to race to pick up one ball each and take it back to our line and sit down. In the end Amani's team won that round.

Cyber smart COB

For our Cyber smart learning today we got to make a copy of a slide and then we went onto commenting on random kids for other schools blogs. We then had to take what we had written down and put it onto this slide here. For this project we had to be in a group and I was with Leandri and Trinity. We all put in the effort and worked hard.
